What to do when someone takes your idea

Check out this scenario: You've done a lot of hard work and research to come up with an idea that is original and someone else simply steps in and copies your hard work. You can be infuriated and confront the individual or organization that copied your work or you can be flattered that people think enough of your work to copy it.  Depending on what the work is, you could possibly sue the individual or organization that copied your work.  What would you do?
